Ohio's Hidden Tax Break: Big Tech's Secret Advantage in the Heartland

Ohio's Hidden Tax Break: Big Tech's Secret Advantage in the Heartland

Were you aware, through "Jobs Ohio" & legislation, Ohio has a, "Data Center Tax Exemption - A tax credit for eligible data center equipment"?

I wasn't.

It was law buried in a 2,602 page budget bill in July 2019. During the 133rd General Assembly • Amended Substitute House Bill Number 166.

We see it codified in ORC 122.175.

Who's building data centers in Ohio? Amazon? Facebook? Google? You know, the Big Tech companies that hate us flyover county "deplorables".Where is the equipment used in these data centers manufactured? Ohio? Doubtful. In the United States? Maybe. Elsewhere? Most likely. China? Almost certainly.

Nowhere did I see a requirement for equipment to be sourced from Ohio or US manufacturers. Not sellers, MANUFACTURERS. Our state government & politicians are either fleecing us, dumb, or looking the other way.We need to be calling for a stop to this nonsense posthaste.
